Structure Fire in Extreme Cold Conditions - Upland Drive, Salisbury
Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Salisbury Fire Department Stations 16, 2 and 1 were alerted for a structure fire in the Harbor Pointe neighborhood just after 8pm. Lieutenant Cotter arrived on the scene via personal vehicle and confirmed a working fire. Assistant Chief 1, (Adams), arrived on scene, established Command, and advised all incoming units this would be defensive operations only due to heavy fire volume. Engine 16 went on the scene laying 5 inch line to the closet hydrant and then pulled an 1 ¾ line to the A side of the structure. The B side exposure was also protected while Tower 16 set up a Master Stream operation. Truck 2 went to the C side of the structure for suppression efforts. Engine 1 crew located another hydrant behind the structure on the next street over and they secured the water source and pulled two three inch lines to help Tower 16 with master stream ops. Situation was placed under control approximately two hours into the incident with crews remaining on the scene indefinitely for overhaul and clean-up. Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, Neighborhood Services & Code Compliance and the Red Cross was requested to the scene. The home was condemned at that time. All crews returned to service without incident. Units: AC1, C1, E16, PM16, TOW16, TK2, AL2, E1, TK1, PM2 Photo by: Wayne Barrall
