"Recruit Class 2010" Graduates - Salisbury Fire Department
Friday, October 22, 2010
The Salisbury Fire Department is proud to announce our four newest career members have completed the SFD "Recruit Class & Orientation" 2010!
Firefighter/EMT-B's Bradley Berg, Joshua Engle, Jason Stimis and Firefighter/Paramedic Greg Fries have spent the last three weeks in Recruit Class and orientation, learning about the history of the SFD, Standard Operating Procedures, daily duties, completing skill reviews, and daily training.
The three weeks culminated in a swearing-in ceremony held at Salisbury Fire Department Headquarters, Friday afternoon, October 22nd. Family, friends, and new co-workers, both career and volunteer, came out to show their support for the new recruit class grads.
Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes gave the opening remarks to the new recruits, followed by some congratulatory words from Mayor James Ireton. Chief Jeff Simpson, Salisbury Fire Department's incoming Fire Chief, spoke to the new grads as well.
Each new firefighter had their badge "pinned on" by a loved one to mark the occasion. Acting Chief Hoppes had the honor of swearing the new recruits in. Firefighter/Paramedic Fries spoke on behalf of the new grads, thanking everyone who had helped them achieve their goals and get to where they were today. They specifically wanted to thank Lt. Michael Donaway, of the Training Division, for all the help and effort he had given them.
Assistant Chaplain Terry Jones gave a wonderful benediction to wrap up. Refreshments were provided for everyone to enjoy with their families afterward.
Congratulations to the new grads - we wish them a long, happy and successful career with the Salisbury Fire Department!
