EMS Volunteer Membership Launched - SFD
Wednesday, August 3, 2011

As the demand for EMS service continues to rise fo the SFD and departments across the nation, innovative staffing ideas need to be developed to meet the call load. Recently volunteer members of station 16 and Operations Support Captain Mark Cotter developed a cutting-edge plan to allow EMS volunteer members into the department. Traditionally the SFD concentrated on attracting members that had the desire to support firefighting activities. With this new initiative, EMT's, nurses and other medical professionals can join the department in support of their community. "The creation of this new staffing support solution is incredible" said SFD Fire Chief Jeff Simpson. "Not only does it give us stronger resource management capabilities but it also supports volunteerism and ultimately the service we provide to the citizens of Salisbury" added Simpson. The program will begin with 10 new members concentrating on EMS skill and support training. We look forward to their success!
