D Shift Runs Townhouse Fire - 510 Georgia Ave
Sunday, March 17, 2013
Just before shift change, Salisbury stations were alerted for a reported townhouse on fire. Asst. Chief Tull arrived on scene with a two story, end of the row, with fire from sides A and C. Engine 16 arrived, laid a supply line and stretched the front bumper line to the front door. As the crew extinguished the fire on the first floor, the fire began to advance upstairs and vented itself out the front window. Truck 2 arrived , laddered the building on sides A, C and D and began vertical ventilation. Engine 1 arrived on scene laying a supply line from a second hydrant only to find a short time later it was out of service. They then pulled to the scene tying into Engine 16 as their crew pulled a second line to the first floor to back up. Engine 16’s crew advanced to the second floor and finished knocking down the bulk of the fire. Due to building construction, fire was able to get into the knee wall and run approximately 3 units before crews were able to make several trench cuts in the front facing of the building and extinguish the remainder of fire. Command scaled the call back and crews remained on scene for overhaul awaiting the fire marshall. Cause of fire was determined to be unattended french fries in the oven.
