East Road House Fire
Sunday, March 2, 2014

Just before 8pm Stations 16, 2, and 1 were alerted for a 'working house fire' in the 700-block of East Road.  AC-1 (Frampton) arrived on the scene and found a 1-1/2 story wood frame, single family dwelling with smoke showing on side A and established the East Road Command.  The occupant advised that she returned home to find smoke coming from her bedroom windows and front door.  E16-1 and Tower 16 arrived and began an aggressive fire attack, along with search and rescue.  Crews deployed two handlines through the front door and found fire in a bedroom.  E16-1's driver and the crew of PM-2 hand-jacked 300 feet of 3-inch to a nearby hydrant and secured a water source.  Tower 16's driver threw ground ladders and secured utilities.  The fire was quickly extinguished and all searches were negative.  The crews of TK-1 and E2 assisted with overhaul.

The Red Cross was notified and assisted the 5 occupants with clothing and shelter.  The cause of the fire was a faulty electrical baseboard heater.  There were no working smoke detectors in the residence.
