Large Area Search-SFD
Saturday, March 15, 2014
Members of the Salisbury Fire Department conducted large area search training in the engine bay of Station 16. Members were briefed on the use of the search bag and the individual search bags that carry 20 feet of line to allow personnel to search a larger area off of the main rope.
The search bag, which has knots every 20 feet as landmarks, was stretched out and a spare SCBA was placed somewhere away from the rope in the bay. Each member was given a scenario (ie a firefighter was entering the structure and became disoriented approximately 50 feet in) and then blindfolded and tasked with finding the SCBA using the search kit, and then identifying how far in they had come by counting the knots.
