Around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Wicomico Central alerted Stations 5 (Hebron), 9 (Mardela) and 74 (Delmar) for a reported house fire in the 400 block of N Main St in Hebron. Upon dispatch Central advised they had received multiple calls along with conflicting reports that subjects may still be inside the residence. A responding officer from Station 5 that was in the area confirmed a working fire and immediately requested Engine Company 16 and Truck 2 from Salisbury to assist. Engine Company 12 (West Side) was also requested to assist. Units from Hebron arrived on scene moments later to find a two story wood frame single family dwelling with heavy fire showing. Engine 16 arrived on scene shortly after and secured its own water supply and assisted with fire suppression as well as water supply efforts. Initial units on scene initiated an aggressive interior attack however due to rapidly deteriorating conditions the evacuation tones were sounded and suppression efforts went defensive. Truck 2 laid a supply line upon its arrival, secured by Engine Tanker 12 in preparation for ladder pipe operations, and went to work hitting hot spots and performing overhaul operations. Units from Salisbury operated on scene for nearly four hours until being placed in service by command. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Maryland State Fire Marshal, please see Hebron VFD’s website for any further information.
