Car Versus Tree On Parker Road
Monday, June 23, 2014

Around 17:15 hours Monday, Wicomico Central alerted Stations 2 and 16 for a MVC with entrapment in the area of Parker Road and Heather Glen Drive.  While crews were en route Central advised units responding that a Deputy from the Wicomico Sheriff's Office was on scene with a car versus a tree, well off the roadway, and one patient heavily trapped in the vehicle.  Truck 2 arrived on scene to find the same and immediately went to work stabilizing the vehicle and setting up equipment to free the trapped driver.  Rescue 16 arrived minutes later taking position in the field as close as possible to the vehicle and immediately went to work.  Paramedic 16 and 1 arrived and immediately began patient care while Truck 2 and Rescue 16 worked on the extrication.  Crews were able to free the trapped driver in approximately 30 minutes through a coordinated and vigorous rescue operation.  Upon removal of the patient, the patient was immediately transported priority 1 to PRMC.  Crews packed up and returned to service shortly after patient transport.  Assistant Chief 1 (O'Barsky) had the incident command, with Deputy Chief 2 (Smith) serving as the Safety Officer throughout the duration of the incident.
