Blazing a Trail for Literacy Reading Program

The Salisbury Fire Department's Blazing a Trail for Literacy Reading Program with Pemberton Elementary School was completed today 3/4/15. The four second grade classes at Pemberton were challenged to read at least twenty minutes a day for thirty consecutive days. The 80 plus students read a combined 18,856 total minutes. This will set the bar for the other schools participating in the reading program. The SFD would like to congratulate the following students for going above and beyond the reading challenge.

3rd place with 1070 total minutes read- Mike Huang who received a  $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble donated by the SCFFA Local 4246.

2nd place with 1190 total minutes read-Diva Shretha who received a backpack donated by Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates

1st place with 1535 total minutes read-Kiera Davis who will be the honorary "Fire Chief for the Day" donated by the SFD

The SFD would like to send a special "thank you" to Mrs. Marshall and the second grade teachers at Pemberton Elementary School for their active participation and guidance during this NEW program.
