July 4th is right around the corner. Many people will want to celebrate our nation's independence by watching fireworks in their local and surrounding area towns. Snow HIll, Salisbury, Ocean City, Willards, and many other towns in our area will put on great fireworks displays that will thrill young and old alike. Some folks will want to put on shows of their own. While lighting off fireworks can be fun and exciting, it can also be dangerous, and is some instances, illegal. Please check your local laws regarding fireworks legalities, and follow the safety tips offered to enjoy a safe, fun, and legal Independence Day celebration!
Use only fireworks LEGAL in the State of Maryland. Check with local authorities if you are not sure
Be sure to read and follow all labels and directions
Only adults should light/set off fireworks
Adults should supervise children utilizing any ground-based sparkling devices
Keep ignition sources away from children
Store fireworks out of the reach of children
Always have a garden hose or bucket(s) of water in the area where fireworks are being ignited
Soak used fireworks in a bucket of water to ensure they are doused
NEVER attempt to re-light a firework that did not go off properly
Wait 15-20 minutes if a firework did not operate properly, then soak it in a bucket of water
Clean up any debris from fireworks
Keep pets indoors and away from fireworks as the loud noises and bright lights may frighten them
