Deputy Chief John Tull Promoted To Chief Of The Department

The Salisbury Fire Department is pleased to announce that Mayor Day and the Salisbury City Council selected Deputy Chief John W. Tull as the new Fire Chief. Chief Tull was sworn in on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 6 p.m. at the City Council meeting and took over on July 1, 2018.  Chief Tull is a lifelong resident of Salisbury, graduating from Wicomico High School in 1990.  He earned his Associates of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services from Wor Wic Community College and his Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science, Summa Cum Laude, from Columbia Southern University.  Chief Tull is the first Fire Chief to also be a Paramedic.

Tull has been a dedicated member of the Salisbury Fire Department for the entirety of his career beginning as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT in 1992.  He was hired as a career Firefighter/EMT in 1994 and has worked his way up the career ladder. His past positions included Engine Lieutenant, Training Captain, Engine Captain, Assistant Fire Chief, and, Deputy Fire Chief.  In addition to his work with the Salisbury Fire Department he is also an Emergency Services Instructor for the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.

Chief Tull is both Maryland and Nationally-Certified as a Fire Fighter II, Fire Officer IV, Registered Paramedic, and Fire Instructor III. In addition he is Maryland and Nationally-Certified in multiple Special Operations disciplines including Hazardous Materials Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Trench Rescue Technician, and Rope Rescue Technician. Chief Tull is also a recognized member of the National Fire Service Staff and Command.
