The first arriving unit (Truck 2) reported a catastrophic rupture to the left saddle tank of a tractor trailer.
Investigation revealed that while the driver was backing, contact was made w/ a steel bollard causing the end of the saddle tank to be completely torn from the remainder of the tank.
Crews quickly utilized corn-cob absorbent to protect an adjacent storm water drain from any further contamination. A response by SFD Haz Mat 1 brought additional absorbent and special hydrocarbon-absorbing materials to the scene. Crews worked diligently to keep the diesel fuel from entering a nearby storm water retention pond. The scene was released to Wicomico County Emergency Management for abatement and clean-up management.
