Extrication on Rt. 50 - Rt. 50 and Autumn Grove Ct.

At 14:07, stations 1 was alerted for and accident with injuries at the busy intersection of Rt. 50 and Autumn Grove Ct. Shortly after the original dispatch the call was upgraded to an accident with entrapment, which brought the rescue from 16 also. The rescue and truck 1 arrived along with the assistant chief who assumed the Rt.50 command and reported a two vehicle accident, vehicles off the roadway in a ditch, with 3 trapped. The driver of one vehicle was able to remove themself with the assistance of crews, while the roof of the second vehicle would need to be flapped in order to remove the remaining 2 patients. The crew of rescue 16 stabilized using numerous Paratech struts and began the flap with two Hurst tools and a sawzall. Engine 1 arrived and placed a safety line in service. Parsonsburg and Pittsville ambulances were both called for to transport two of the occupants of the second vehicle. Total extrication time was approx. 30 minutes.
