Vehicle Accident With Entrapment - truitt St. & Rt. 50

At 0743 hrs Station 2 and Station 16 were alerted for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Truitt St and Rt. 50 west bound. Truck 2 arrived on the scene and found a SUV on its side in front of the Post Office. Lt. Richard Rathel established command and confirmed entrapment of a single occupant. Truck 2’s crew deployed 100 ft. of 1 ¾ line for protection and began to assess the situation for the best way to extricate the victim. Rescue 16 arrived on the scene and began to stabilize the vehicle. Once the vehicle was stabilized crews removed the windshield and removed part of the roof via the O-Cutters to gain access to the pt. With the crew’s assistance EMS removed and packaged pt. and pt. was transported to local trauma center. Extrication took approximately 15 min from time of arrival. Delmarva Power was requested to respond due to vehicle knocking over two light poles with power lines attached to them. Crews operated on scene for approximately an hour. Scene turned over to SHA and Salisbury Police.
