Tuesday, September 10, 2013

At 12:54 Hours, Station 2 was dispatched for a transformer fire in front of 410 Harden Court. Truck 2 responded w/ 220E (Rathel) and three personnel. Upon arrival, 220E advised of a working fire w/ a heavy volume of smoke issuing from a ground transformer. The natural vegetation surrounding the transformer was also ablaze. The suppression crew employed a combination fire attack utilizing a 1.75" handline to extinguish the burning grasses and a dry-chemical extinguisher to knock down and control the fire within the transformer. Haz-Mat 1 was requested to respond due to a substantial oil leak from the transformer extending to the street curbing and neighboring homes. Upon arrival, Haz-Mat 1 assisted in spreading absorbent along the street curbing. A response by Emergency Management was requested. Comcast and Verizon were also requested to respond to survey the damage to their respective equipment.
