Fire on Miami Ave
Tuesday, March 10, 2015

At 11:16, crews from Station 16, 2, and 1 responded to a reported structure fire on Miami Ave. Car 2 arrived at the scene and informed responding units of light smoke coming from the roof of the single story home. Engine 16-1 arrived shortly afterwards, determined the smoke was coming from a fire within the HVAC system, and immediately shut down the system and the gas line. While the crew, now aided by Trucks 1 and 2, advanced a hose line and searched the home for extension, shutting down the utilities was enough to prevent the fire from spreading. This was D-Shift's first fire of the day; At 12:35, Engine 16-1 responded to a trash fire involving a sofa and two 55-gallon drums, and was able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to the home.
