SFD Visits Elementary Schools In Conjunction With Reading Lesson - Northwest Elementary School
Tuesday, September 7, 2010

Assistant Chiefs John Tull and Jim Gladwell recently visited the Northwest Elementary School as they have been reading the children's book, "Cliffhanger." This book is about a boy and his father who climb a mountain to rescue their stranded dog. There is a quite a bit of technical terminology used in the book, though the author tries to explain everything in great detail. The Salisbury Fire Department has been visiting local elementary schools for the past couple of years as the grade school children have been reading this book, to give them a rappeling demonstration, so they can see the equipment and tools up close that were used in the story. The children are always very excited to see the firefighters rappel from the ladder truck, and they are full of questions for us. Check out the engaging book "Cliffhanger," by Jean Craighead George, at the Wicomico County Library to read what we are talking about! If you are interested in setting up a talk or demonstration for your class or group, please contact our Public Education Division at 410-548-3120.
