On December 13, 2014 eight members of local police and fire agencies would come together for the first ever Guns and Hoses Boxing match in Salisbury. The event was held at Main St Gym Boxing Club, the home of the famous Guerrero brothers. Each boxer trained for about a month and a half prior to the event in preparation. Approximately 500 people packed the gym to capacity to see the four Guns and Hoses matches, along with six other regular amateur bouts. The gym itself is a non profit orginazation, which relies on events like this to keep its electric on, water running, building heated and cooled and the doors open. Half of the ticket sales that night along with numerous 50/50 raffles were donated to the charity of each organization's choosing. The police officers would donate their funds to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, while the fire department would doante their half to The Wounded Warrior Project. In total after a separate donation from Main St Gym, both groups donated a total of 2,000 dollar to the foundations. The event was not only a huge success and enjoyed by all in attendance, but a chance to reach accross preconceived lines and build a better brotherhood within the emergency services community. A special thank you goes out to Coach Hal Chernoff for all of his time and effort training us, as well as all the other members of Main St Gym for allowing us into your home. Hopefully this was only the beginning and we can only grow the event from here.
